Buffalo Hide vs Cowhide: What Makes Our Women's Belt Different
Share
Most leather belts are cowhide - it's the industry default, and it's what most of what I make uses too. My Women's Full Grain Leather Belt is oak buffalo hide instead, and it changes both how it feels now and how it'll age.
What's Different About Buffalo Hide
Buffalo hide tends to have a more pronounced, textured grain than cowhide, and is generally thicker and more durable fibre-for-fibre, which suits a belt that gets daily wear.
How It Ages
Like my full grain cowhide pieces, buffalo hide develops a natural patina over time, but the more pronounced grain texture tends to show that ageing in a slightly different, more rugged way.
My Women's Full Grain Leather Belt
Made in oak buffalo hide, handmade in my Norfolk workshop, priced at £34.99, built to the same full grain standard as the rest of my belts collection, just in a different hide.
