23/8/25 - Back to the Bark fire.
Share
Phew... It's 23:17, The kids are now asleep and the house is silent after a manic day...
It started everso well:-
I woke up feeling punch drunk, sleep deprivation from the firecalls endured over the last few days. After a slow wake up ritual the decision was made to wander down to the local sainsburys for some bread, crisps, you know, the usual 'Ran out of's'. This was short lived as the family adventure was rudely interrupted by My alerter bursting into full dance mode again! So I took off out the doors like Mo Farah out of the starting blocks. 3 minutes later i arrived at the fire station gasping like a goldfish out of water, i read the turnout slip,
--'Relief'--
Back to the Bark Fire we go...
Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but i had family plans for the evening that i would be divorced for missing. 'Dinos in the Dark' was the event in question, My objective clear. Get back home in time to go!
With several hours of running the command unit, cleanup duty of equipment and lots of stressful teething problems with appliances I made it back to town with minutes to spare. 19 minutes to be precise. With these golden minutes i managed to scrub off the smell of fire, put on some fresh clothes and even brush my teeth... Dino's here we come!.
We'd now arrived at the venue, being a huge Dinosaur fan, I spent the next 4 hours showing my kids that i knew 99% of all the dinosaurs names, (Except for the Euoplocephalus I had mistaken for an ankylosaurus... ofcourse my wife was on hand to correct me). I also spent a good deal of time in soft play, darting around in tight spaces, diving through ball pits, dodging other children all with the aim of chasing after my own kids trying to herd them together, I can only describe it as herding 2 feral cats. With the obligatory spend in the gift shop, we ventured home and the day was done.
Great Success!
