Peter's Dog Collar, Turned into a Leather Bracelet
Share
Peter got in touch through the contact form on my website. He had his dog's old collar and wanted to know if I could turn it into a bracelet.
I said yes.
The brief
He'd seen my Buffalo Leather Bracelet and liked the design. Slim, 12 mm wide, nothing fussy. He wanted the same thing, made from the collar, with one change. A brushed metal clasp instead of the nickel one.
I didn't have a brushed clasp in, so I ordered one. The collar stayed in one piece until it arrived. The clasp decides how long the leather needs to be, and with a collar you only get one go at the cut.
From collar to bracelet
A collar isn't made for a wrist. It's got holes where the buckle went, a worn bit where the lead clipped on, and years of walks in it. Part of the job is deciding which section ends up on the wrist.
I took it back to a single strip, cleaned it up and cut it down to the same width as the buffalo bracelet. The marks stayed. Sanding them out would have missed the point. Then the edges were finished and the ends went into the new clasp.
If you want the step-by-step version, I've written it up separately: How to Turn a Dog Collar into a Leather Bracelet.
The result
Peter was pleased with it. He said it looks amazing. I'll take that.
